Jessica Ennis-Hill to decide on World Championships after London Anniversary Games

By Laura Williamson

Jessica Ennis-Hill?s chances of making the World Championships hang on whether she comes through Saturday?s tests in the 100 metre hurdles and long jump at the Olympic Stadium.

The Olympic heptathlon champion has only competed in two low-key events since winning gold 12 months ago and is battling a painful left achilles injury with the World Championships less than three weeks away.

Ennis-Hill will take a painkiller to race at the Sainsbury?s Anniversary Games this weekend and then assess how her ankle recovers before making a decision about going to Moscow on ?Monday or Tuesday? next week.

She said: 'I think it?s going to be a good test, to do the hurdles and then go to the long jump after. That?s trying to simulate what I?m going to do in Moscow; to see how (my achilles) holds up.

?This is the next big test. Obviously the hurdles is more explosive and coming down on my lead leg is obviously the damaged achilles, so it?ll be a good test and it?ll be good to see how it recovers.

?I?ve still got pain and it?s just managing it. I?m happy with the way it?s going but it?s still painful. There?s not much time left before Moscow and it?s not just one event; it?s handling seven events.

?I don?t want to leave it to the last minute. I want to start getting my mind in the zone to prepare for the World Championships.

?The last time I hurdled was in the Olympic Stadium (at London 2012). I had an amazing race and now I?m heading back into the stadium for my first hurdles race.

?I could not have been more ready last year and I think I?m at the opposite end of the spectrum this year. I?m just going to go out there and give it?my all and see what happens.?

Ennis-Hill also revealed she will have nowhere to train outdoors after September when Sheffield City Council shut down Don Valley Stadium. There are plans to redevelop the derelict Woodbourn Stadium in the city but nothing has been finalised, meaning Ennis-Hill will have to travel to Leeds or Loughborough twice a week.

?I train there every week and to think it won?t be there anymore is terrible for the city,? she said. ?It?s frustrating because obviously it?s going to make things more difficult, especially through the winter months. I do need a softer surface outside to avoid injuries. I haven?t thought too much into the winter months, but Woodbourn Road is just not ready yet.??
